ABOUT
JENNIFER VIEMONT
I have always had a passion for helping
people. Because I enjoyed relating to people and working on
interpersonal issues, I obtained my Master's in Social Work, became a
Licensed Clinical Social Worker and worked as a psychotherapist for ten
years.
Though I entered the field with abundant enthusiasm, it wasn't long
before I began to feel quite discouraged. I saw many people coming to
therapy who didn't have mental health issues, but were seeking services
to deal with life stress issues, such as marital problems, divorce, and
loneliness. In order to be treated, these people often had a diagnosis
slapped on them and were treated with the goal of resuming previous
levels of functioning.
I found this model so disempowering for the clients and myself. I
decided to leave therapy and develop a program for people facing life
stressors. My program does not require a diagnosis and does not have the
goal of going back to status quo. My program focuses on skills,
strategies, and action-as opposed to processing feelings. The goals is
to help people go beyond their previous levels of functioning, to meet
their full potential, and to achieve their dreams.
What else
about me? I received my Bachelor's degree in psychology from Loyola
University Chicago, my Master's in Social Work from the University of
Illinois at Chicago, and my life coach training from the
Institute for Life Coach Training,
which is specifically designed to provide life coach training for
therapists. I am a member of
Coachville
and the
International Coaching Federation.
I grew up in Chicago and now live with my husband, son, daughter, and
dog (my third child) in Raleigh, North Carolina. I have deliberately
designed my life to balance my roles as business owner, life coach,
wife, mother, friend, traveler, avid reader, active church member, and
foodie.
I draw from life experiences and professional knowledge when coaching
clients. I have been described as warm, caring, enthusiastic, direct and
approachable. My listening skills, perspective, and pragmatic
solution-focused approach are just a few of the well-developed skills
that enable me to provide outstanding coaching.
I have been quoted in the Raleigh-Durham
News and Observer , on
msn.com, and
Women's Health
and Fitness.
